What To Expect - May

Mid to Late May: Early fishermen avoid the bugs. Walleye and northerns are near the spawning areas. A wide range of air temperatures can be expected but the water will be cold. Minnows are the preferred bait for walleye.

Expect - June

By early June the foliage appears and the bugs come out. June is normally the best walleye fishing of the year. The mayfly hatches run from mid June to mid July. Whitefish can be taken near the surface with a flyrod or ultra-light spinning gear.

Expect - July and August

July and August are the best times for couples and families. The lakes are warm enough for swimming while the cooler waters of the Arctic watershed keep the fish active during the summer. The larger northerns are usually caught in the latter half of the season.

Expect - September

By late August - early September, fall is in the air in Northern Algoma. Fishing is usually good for both walleye and northerns at this time of year. Fishing season runs until the end of September.
